Getting ready for Basant in Lahore

Spring festival called Basant. Due at the spring equinox, the festival has been celebrated with great zeal in recent years. Lahore, the capital of the Punjab is all set to experience a flood of tourists from all over the country and abroad. The sky will be covered with millions of kites as young people throng the rooftops to compete with each other during the uniquely enthralling event.
Basant has a lot to due with kite flying, dancing and night-long partying. Girls love to wear yellow shalwar kameezes during the season and dress up most fabulously for the occasion. Punjabi girls from Islambad and as far away as Bahawalpur and even Karachi converge upon Lahore to partake in the much awaited Basant celebrations.

Sargodha is a district of Punjab province, Pakistan. It is an agricultural district, wheat, rice, and sugarcane being its main crops. The Sargodha district and region are also famous for citrus fruit; kino is a newly developed variety. The district has an area of 5,864 km. Sargodha city, was founded in the year 1903 by Sir Malcolm Hailey, who afterwards became the Governor of the Punjab. The name Sargodha consists of two words, namely; ‘Sar’ and ‘Godha’, Sar, means pond or pool and Godha was the name of a Hindu hermit (jogi). Being the District headquarters since 1940, Sargodha was upgraded to the status of Divisional Headquarters in the year 1960.
The District has loamy soil and is favourable for the flora of varied types. The indigenous species of flora are as follows:
1. Trees: Kikar, Shisham, Jand, Wann, Karir, Ber, Malla, Lasuri, Lasura.
2. Shrubs: Ak, Jawain, Sarkanda, Gondi, Harmal.

It is the story of three girls remembering their journey from Chaklala railway station to Karachi. Chaklala is a garrison town of Rawalpindi in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Chaklala has a population of around 150,000, the majority of the people are Punjabis and Pothoharis, the remaining are mainly Urdu speaking Mohajirs, Kashmiris and Pathans. It situated at 33°36’0N 73°6’0E with an altitude of 487 metres . It is situated astride the Airport road, to the east of Grand Trunk Road on the main railway line and also has a railway station of its own. The headquarters of the Joint staff headquarters (JSHQ) of Pakistan Armed Forces and the Joint Services Staff College are also located in Chaklala. It is home to some important army and air force units, depots and workshops; residential bungalow colonies of British era, and modern and posh Chaklala housing schemes (I, II, and III) with a rapidly diminishing rural area.

Khyber Medical College situated in NWFP Pakistan. Professor Dr. Nargis Parveen is currently the dean and principal of Khyber Medical College. It is listed in the World Health Organization directory of medical schools. College buildings added during 1960 to 1980 were designed by Pakistani Architect A. R. Hye. The college was founded in 1954 by Mr. Ghulam Muhammad, Governor General of Pakistan, with the vision to create a centre of excellence in medical training, health care and biomedical research. In 1964, a dentistry department was founded which is now called Khyber College of Dentistry. The college has a distinguished faculty of more than 100 full-time teachers and researchers in 26 research-oriented basic and clinical academic departments. Around 1400 medical students are enrolled in the college in any given year. More than 8000 graduates call Khyber Medical College their alma mater. Every year a high number of graduates are accepted in residency and sub-speciality training programs in the United States and United Kingdom. It provides training to future leaders in patient care and provides modern health care facilities to the people of Peshawar.
